LD30 Conference Sessions: Students

I. POSTER SESSION
55 minutes, with posters left on display for the rest of the conference
Involves a visual display about a puzzle, problem, or project to promote change in their lives, local communities, or beyond that interests the student(s), and which the student(s) wants to take action on with other young people. Posters should aim to highlight points quickly and clearly, as well as encourage discussion and exchange between the presenter(s) and participants.

Example issues: gender equality, learning beyond the classroom, plastic pollution, studying abroad, taking action on a Sustainable Development Goal

II. STORY CIRCLE

55 minutes, including supportive listening, reflection, and story sharing
With minimal use of slides or other visual aids , the student(s) share(s) stories about significant personal experiences, incidents, puzzles, or conflicts to do with promoting change in their lives, local communities, and beyond. In a Story Circle, participants are encouraged to listen, reflect, and make connections to their own lives, and share their own stories in turn.

Example issues: gender equality, learning beyond the classroom, plastic pollution, studying abroad, taking action on a Sustainable Development Goal

III. PROJECT HUB

90 minutes, including pair/small-group project designs

A highly interactive session where, in the first hour, students from different universities work in pairs and/or small groups to share their questions and perspectives about a particular issue in society that concerns them, brainstorm ideas, and create a starting plan for a project at their schools or universities, within their local communities, or within their personal networks

  • By the end of the first hour of a Project Hub, each pair or small group creates a poster to display their starting plans.
  • In the last 30 minutes of a Project Hub, participants in the Project Hub view each other’s posters and discuss their starting plans and projects with each other.

Example issues: gender equality, learning beyond the classroom, plastic pollution, studying abroad, taking action on a Sustainable Development Goal
