LD30 Conference Sessions: Teachers

I. SHORT SESSIONS
A. Research / Practice Talk
25 minutes, including at least 5 minutes for discussion
Focuses on a particular learner development, and/or global issues education, and/or teacher development question, puzzle, or conundrum that interests the presenter(s), and which the presenter(s) has/have engaged with, and has/have explored, or is/are exploring.

B. Lightning Discussion
25 minutes, with 5-10 minutes for input + 10-15 minutes for discussion
With minimal use of slides or other visual aids, the presenter shares a puzzle, research, or activity to do with learner development, and/or global issues education, and/or teacher development, then leads a discussion around 2-3 specific questions on their thematic focus.

II. POSTER SESSIONS

55 minutes
Involves a poster about a puzzle, problem, or project to do with learner development, and/or global issues education, and/or teacher development, and/or to promote change in teachers’ and/or students’ lives, local communities, or beyond that interests the teacher(s), and which the teacher(s) wants to take action on with others. Posters should aim to highlight points quickly and clearly, as well as encourage discussion and exchange between the presenter(s) and participants.

III. COLLABORATIVE LEARNING SPACES

A. Learning Café
55 minutes, including pair/small-group activities and/or discussion tasks
With minimal use of slides or other visual aids, the presenter shares a puzzle, research, or activity to promote change in their students’ lives, local communities and beyond, and encourages participants to share their perspectives. In the second half of a Learning Café, participants produce mini-posters to share their ideas and reflections with other conference attendees.

B. Workshop
55 minutes, including pair/small-group activities and/or discussion tasks
Involves a brief lead-in and then extensive facilitated interaction around a thematic focus related to learner development, and/or global issues education, and/or teacher development. A workshop includes several pair/small-group activities and/or discussion tasks so that participants can explore, discuss, and reflect on the thematic focus together.

C. Forum
55 or 90 minutes, including participant interaction and reflection time
Involves multiple (3 or more) contributions on a similar learner development, and/or global issues education, and/or teacher development question, puzzle, conundrum, or theme. While contributions may be sequentially organised, forum presenters are encouraged to opt for concurrent presentations so that participants and presenters can interact. Forums include time for participant discussion and reflection.
